FOG Volleyball Club will try to offer a minimum of 6 men's teams for the 2020-21 club season.
Teams/players will chosen during a combination of an early signing period and/or the tryout period.

This will be his fourth year of coaching with FOG. He played 10 years of club volleyball including 5 years professional in various clubs and leagues in Turkey. He coached a High School Senior Girls Team from 1981 to 1982, a 17U Men’s Team from 1982 to 1984, and a U15 Girls Team from 2000 to 2002 in Turkey. He was an assistant coach for NAVC Men’s 14U in 2013 and the head coach of FOG Red Men’s 16U in 2016. He was also the coach for FOG Black U16 for the 2018-2019 season and FOG Black 17U for the 2019-2020 season.
He was also part of the team delegates for, Turkish Women’s Volleyball National Team in Euro League Qualification Tournament in 1995 in Netherlands, and for, 17U Turkish Men’s Volleyball National Team in European Championship Qualification Tournament in Slovenia.
He likes sharing his experience and passion of the game with the athletes. He is really looking forward to coaching the last year of this cohort!
Coaching Philosophy: He believes that volleyball skill development and growth of an athlete is more important than the results measured by medals and trophies. Improving, having fun and making good memories are the most important goals of a season; all of which comes with being a team.

This will be his third year coaching for FOG. He was an assistant coach for FOG Black U16 Boys for the 2019 season, FOG Black 17U in 2020 season and he was the assistant coach for J. Percy Page Sr. Boys Volleyball during the 2019 school season.
He started playing volleyball in Turkey when he was ten years old and he has played competitive volleyball since. In Turkey, he played for TOFAS Sports Club for three years and in Canada, he played for NAVC U14, FOG U15 and FOG U16. He is also a Level 2 volleyball referee and he was officiating between 2015 to 2018. He is currently in his fourth year of Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology at the University of Alberta
He is very passionate about volleyball and it is a big part of his life. He is excited to be a part of the FOG family once again and share his experience with the athletes.

Coaching background: Over the last 5 seasons with FOG, Ollie has been Head Coach and Coordinator of the U13, U14, U15 and U16 programs with multiple top 3 finishes in Alberta over that time including winning the U13 Provincial Championship in 2017 and finishing 4th at Nationals in 2019 at the U15 level. He had an outstanding all-star caliber roster for the U16 season and won gold at Premier #1 before COVID stopped a very promising season and another potential top Nationals result. In addition to FOG, Ollie helped coached at Grandview Heights Jr. High from 2016-2018, winning City Championships in '17 an '18. He also previously assisted with the Strathcona High School Sr. Boys in the 90's for several seasons.
Playing Experience: Ollie began playing volleyball in Alberta in the mid 80's and enjoyed success at multiple levels including playing for Strathcona High School (1985-88), Team Alberta from 1986-89, Canada Games Championship in 1989, University of Alberta Golden Bears (1988-1993), Professionally in France with AS Monaco in 1994, multiple Senior Men's competitions with Volleyball Alberta and the World Master's Games in 2005(silver). Over his years of playing, he received multiple all-star awards and was captain for Team Alberta, UofA Golden Bears and AS Monaco. He continued to play recreationally with the Edmonton Volleyball Association (Indoor and Beach) for many years until 2018, and now spend more time sharing my knowledge through coaching.
Coaching Philosophy: Sports should always be about having fun and making lifelong friends along the way. Success in not measured in the medals we win but rather the lessons we learn in our journey.

Marcus has played indoor and beach volleyball since he was eleven years old. He played three years of post secondary as a setter, right side, then left side. Three years coaching experience with NAVC. He's very excited for the opportunity to work with a team at such a great developmental age.
Spencer played five years of volleyball at NAIT and Nipissing University. He had the opportunity to play at such a high level has given him a set of skills that will transition well into the coaching program. In his free time, he enjoys watching the Toronto Raptors play, playing golf and skiing.

Michael is excited to introduce to you this coaching tandem who will be able to relate well to the young players and provide them the guidance to reach a post secondary career. His role will be to support both Marcus and Spenser in the Team Management and their coaching development. The U16 age class is an exciting time as players begin to truly specialize and develop.
The Ei Athlete Program is a mental training program that is progressive and provides young athletes with the high performance mental toolbox to cope with the activities and stresses of high performance focused sport. Ryan is an experienced leader/trainer and has been involved with this group since 2018. Ryans back ground includes U-Sport player experience (UBC) as well as BC Provincial Team from U15 to the Canada Games.

Coaching background: This is Mitch's second season coaching with FOG, and his 6th season coaching club volleyball in Alberta. Mitch has coached various boys programs in the u14-u16 age class, and look forward to another exciting season. He also worked with the GPRC’s Men’s Volleyball Program (ACAC) as an Assistant Coach. Mitch holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, as well as a degree in Education, obtained from the University of Alberta. As both an educator and a coach he has a passion for developing a growth mindset, athletes should be “students of the game”, who are always working towards self improvement on multiple levels.
Coaching Philosophy: Mitch believes that the PROCESS determines the OUTCOME. Rather than focusing on the end result, he encourages athletes to concentrate on the things they can control such as preparation, attitude, and effort. "What we do both on and off the court illustrates who we are. We should hold ourselves to a high standard of excellence that fosters continual growth in terms of character and competency."

Jennifer has experience playing women's 6's at the Tier 1/2 level (BC); beach doubles, reverse 2's, coed 6's and 4's (beach, grass, and indoors).

Coaching background: Mike Steele has been a teacher, administrator, and coach in the Edmonton school community for the last 22 years. His playing experience has spanned 30 years and includes school teams, the Alberta Provincial Program, and recreational volleyball with EVA and ESSC. Through his time with Edmonton Public Schools, Mike has spent 15 years as a teacher and administrator at the junior high level and has coached both boys and girls volleyball at the developmental and competitive level. Last year Mike was the head coach for Fog Red U14 girls team.
Coaching Philosophy:Mike believes skill and knowledge development combined with the ongoing growth of an athlete must outweigh the personal accolades and recorded victories of the team. Continuous growth, being part of a team, and lasting friendships are the most important lessons we can learn from any team sport.

Coaching background: Dave is in his third season with FOG volleyball, his 5th coaching club volleyball, and 17th year coaching volleyball. While coaching club he has guided his teams, both as a head coach and an assistant, to multiple top 3 finishes throughout that time including a Provincial Championship with U13 boys in 2011, and a 4th place finish in 2018-19 at the U15 level at Volleyball Canada Nationals. In addition to FOG, Dave has previously been an assistant coach with the Cambrian College Golden Shield in '06 in Sudbury, Ontario, along with coaching various school teams at different levels from elementary to high school. He is very active in his coaching development attending various yearly clinics and symposiums to help improve athletic performance. Dave holds a degree in History (BA), as well as B.Ed in elementary education and is currently working for the Edmonton Catholic School District. He has also previously studied Physical Education at the University of Alberta and Physical Fitness and Leisure Management at Cambrian College.
